Maybe you lost your sense of safety after sexual violence. Perhaps you feel in danger and afraid. You may be struggling to feel safe or simply are on the lookout for bad things to happen. Perhaps you’re feeling shame or guilt about what happened, or you have nightmares or flashbacks that don't go away.
Whatever you are going through, you are starting to notice the impact it’s having in your life:
You might not think is possible now, but you can heal and feel safe again. You can strengthen the bond with your loved ones. You can start feeling better again. I can help you get there.
Trauma therapy can help you.
My approach to trauma therapy comes from a place of compassion and empowerment and believing you have the power to heal.
Being scared, hypervigilant, and thinking about what happened over and over, don't have to be your story. I can help you change it.
Trauma can be described as a distressing experience. People may develop symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. You have intrusive thoughts, nightmares, flashbacks, avoidance of reminders, trouble sleeping, hypervigilant, or on the lookout for bad things to happen. You might have negative thoughts and emotions, such a 'people cannot be trusted, the world is dangerous, 'it was my fault.' Trauma can affect you. You might be withdrawn, more dependent or irritable with others. You have difficulty trusting others, feel numb or disconnected. You might be startled easily and have trouble concentrating.
One of the most important things to do first is to help you feel safe again. Through the use of guided imagery and creating a safe place, you can learn to self-soothe and feel safe again. Developing trust for working with me is crucial. After that we will work on processing what bothers you at your own pace. In trauma therapy we will be using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to identify negative perceptions that might have develop that hinder you. With the use of mindfulness, you will learn to observe and notice your thoughts and emotions without judgment, which will lead to feeling calmer and more relaxed.
People who work with me normally see a change in 3-6 months but that also depends on your circumstances.
I offer trauma intensives, a transformative form of therapy that can help you heal sooner, instead of meeting for one hour a week which can take months to see a change, you can do 2-3 hours of counseling for 1-3 days and feel better now.
First, schedule a 10-15 brief phone consult where we will speak about what challenges you have faced, your hopes and determine if this is a good fit for you, and then we will schedule an initial appointment.
