Maybe you lost a family member, your pet, your sense of safety after trauma or a relationship. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed, isolated and disoriented. You may be struggling to make meaning or simply you cannot make sense of why this had to happen. Perhaps you’re feeling guilty about what happened, or you have a mixture of emotions such as sadness, anger, fear, confusion, shock or disbelief.
Whatever you are going through, you are starting to notice the impact it’s having in your life:
It may be impossible to believe, but you can heal and feel hope. You can connect to a new way of being and rebuild your life. You can start living life again. I can help you get there.
Grief counseling can help you.
My approach to grief counseling comes from a place of support and healing and believing you have the power to heal and make meaning of what happened.
You don’t have to keep feeling overwhelmed and sad. You can find healing and hope and connect to a new way of being. I can help you get there.
Grief is the emotional response when losing someone close. You can experience grief and loss when a family member or your pet dies, or a relationship ends. There are no specific ways people grieve. Common feelings and reactions are intense sadness, denial, guilt, and loneliness. You can get help with grief if you need support. You may also be experiencing depression.
The time you grieve can vary and it depends upon factors including your relationship with that person, your coping strategies and the support system you have. The intensity of grief and loss will lessen with time, but there may still be periods of intense emotions even after years have passed. Sometimes, grief can turn into complicated grief. You may start to ask yourself, 'why haven't I moved on? I don't want to feel like this forever.' You can get help with grief by going to grief counseling.
When the loss happens in a traumatic way through violence, an accident, a natural disaster or an illness, the symptoms will be harder to cope with. You may develop traumatic grief symptoms similar to those of post-traumatic stress disorder, such as avoidance of reminders, flashbacks, hypervigilance, irritability, negative thoughts and sleep disturbance. You can get help with grief.
We will collaborate together in the grief and loss process to change the way you see what happened. Many times, people have negative perceptions about the loss making it harder to move on. You will learn skills to process the loss, make meaning of what happened and connect to a new way of being.
People who work with me normally see a change in 1-3 months but that also depends on your circumstances.
I offer therapy intensives, a transformative form of therapy that can help you heal sooner, rather than waiting to see the results of weekly therapy you can do 3 hours for 1-3 days and feel better now.
First, schedule a 10-15 brief phone consult where we will speak about what brings you to therapy, your hopes and determine if this is a good fit for you, and then we will schedule an initial appointment.
